The Night of Power

Asalaamu alaykum,

As we celebrate the last ten blessed days of Ramadan we supplicate Almighty Allah for the needs of our world. In the holy Quran, Allah promises that on the Night of Laylat al-Qadr, peace will descend upon the earth.

Surely We revealed it on the Night of Power.

And what will make you comprehend what the Night of Power is?

The Night of Power is better than a thousand months

The angels and Gibreel descend in it by the permission of their Lord for every affair,

Peace! until the break of the morning. Holy Quran 97:1-5

There are some people who despair of peace in the holy land of Palestine. They worry where peace will come from or how it can ever be achieved. To such people I say this: as Muslims we proclaim Allahu Akhbar, God is the Most Great. We don't say "America is the Most Great" or "Israel is the Most Great" or "Money is the Most Great." For Muslims, and indeed for all people of real faith, God is in charge of this earth. He controls all things. It is He who will bring peace and justice to Palestine. Of this we can be sure.

So, while the politicians talk in Washington, we pray with certainty during these blessed days for our brothers and sisters in Palestine, that the millions expelled from their homes will be allowed one day to return and that those who occupy Jerusalem will leave. There can be no peace in the Land of the Prophets without justice.
